Janice D. Varney, of Walpole, December 27, 2017, age 88.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Harold Varney and her brother Lyle K. Steely, Jr. Loving mother of Christine Indech, MD of Peachtree Corners, GA (Robert); Earl Varney of Rose Valley, PA ( Mina); Rev. Ross Varney of Newburyport, MA (Lynn); and Elizabeth Ranucci of Pickens, SC ( Frank). Cherished grandmother Jennifer, David, Daniel, Kathryn, Joshua, Nathan, Benjamin, Isaac, Julia, Roger, and Hilary and great grandmother of Samuel, Benjamin, and Mason. Sister of the late Lyle K. Steely, Jr. Devoted aunt of LeNora, Susan, and the late Lyle, III. .

Janice graduated from Arlington High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from Boston University's College of Practical Arts and Letters, in 1950. She married that same year and worked as an executive secretary of Monsanto Corporation. She moved to Walpole in 1955 to raise her family as Harold was Principal of Bird Elementary School and then Old Post Road School when it first opened in 1964. Janice was a Deacon Emeritus of her church and active in several community organizations (Walpole Public Library, Campfire Girls organization and the Visiting Nurse Association).

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Janice's Life Celebration on Friday from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Service will be held in the Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Avenue, East Walpole on Saturday at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
