James Francis Smith

James F. Smith age 48 years died in the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, November 4, 2011. Born in Brighton, Massachusetts on January 17, 1963, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Mary (DeBenedetto) Smith. He was raised in Brighton and graduated from Saint Columbkille High School with the class of 1981, and was the captain of the football team. He later graduated from Boston College's School of Management in 1985. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts since 1999, moving there from Newton.

He worked as a Probation Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Stoughton District Court for 15 years. He also served as a youth counselor at the Jackson Mann Community Center in Allston, a history teacher at Saint Columbkille High School, and a teacher at the Suffolk County Jail in Boston.

Mr. Smith was an Exalted Ruler of the BPOE in Brighton, served the President of the CYO at Saint Columbkille High School, and coached CYO Hockey and Little League in Brighton. In Walpole, he coached both basketball and football.

He was active in political causes, was a community advocate, and enjoyed organizing his high school reunions. He was an avid Patriots fan, who will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

Beloved husband of Barbara D. (Dagher) Smith. Loving father of Matthew C. Smith of Walpole. Brother in law of George Dagher of NY, Peter and his wife Cornelia Dagher, NY, John and his wife Lisa Dagher, NY, Matthew and his wife Maura Dagher of Hingham, and Kathryne Dagher of NY. Cherished uncle of Peter, Jr, Charlotte, Courtney, Caroline, Bridgette, John, Jr.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Buiral that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church East Street (Route 27) at Diamond Street Walpole on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 9:00 AM. Visiting hours are Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 3-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery.
