James D. Sawyer, age 64, died in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Monday, June 2, 2014. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on September 29, 1949, he graduated from Newton Trade School with the class of 1967. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He has been a lifelong resident of Walpole.
He spent his working career as a heavy equipment operator and was employed by Anderson Excavation in Norton.
He enjoyed tending to his vegetable gardens and following both the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. As an avid race fan, he loved watching NASCAR.
Beloved husband of Mildred "Sue" (Clark) Sawyer. Loving father of Scott Sawyer of Natick, Megin and her husband Michael Scotton of Foxboro, and his step son Paul Blaisdell of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Amber Scotton, Kaylene Scotton, Michael Scotton, Nicolas Blaisdell, Trevor Blaisdell and Brady Blaisdell. Devoted son of Rita D. (Collard) Sawyer of Walpole and the late Henry J. Sawyer. Brother of Jacqueline R. and her husband Harold Kiley of Mansfield, Robert H. Sawyer of Brownfield, ME, Russell J. and his wife Diane Sawyer, and Joanne M. Sawyer both of Plainville.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend James' Life Celebration on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 4-8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. Funeral service and interment will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
