James L. "Hat" Roberts, Jr., age 64, passed away in the Boston Medical Center on Sunday, March 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Naval Hospital in St. Albans, New York on May 19, 1953, he was the son of James L. Roberts, Sr. and the late Dorothy A. Wilbur. He was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts and attended Walpole High School.
Jim began his career as a mechanic working at Russ Green's Exxon in Walpole. He later worked at Jack O'Leary's Route 1 Exxon and P & T Wallview Service Center before taking a position with Daley Service Center in Norfolk. While working at Daley's, Jim married his beloved wife, Brenda E. Graham, on October 7, 1978 in Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole. The young couple initially lived in Walpole before settling into their home in Foxborough and eventually making their home together in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Jim continued working at Daley's for 32 years, retiring only in 2011. After retiring from Daley's Jim worked as a part time Zamboni driver and janitor at both Iorio Ice Arena in Walpole and Foxboro Sports Complex in Foxboro until 2015.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman and loved taking quail hunting trips with his wife and English Setters to South Carolina. Back at home in Massachusetts, he was a life member of the Walpole Sportsman's Association, where he enjoyed participating in trap and skeet shooting as well as the indoor archery league. Because of all the hard work that "Hat" donated to WSA and his skills as an outdoorsman, he was awarded Sportsman of the Year. Jim also had a passion for motorcycles and took various trips with Brenda around the United States and Canada.
