James Thomas Masters

March 4, 1947 — November 29, 2019

James Thomas Masters, age 72, passed away peacefully in his daughter’s Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Friday, November 29, 2019.  Born in Huntington, NY, Jim was the son, and oldest of 3, to the late Nicholas and Christina (Bowman) Masters. After graduating high school, Jim followed in the footsteps of his father Nicholas, who was a decorated WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Jim proudly served his country as a Radio Communication Analysis Specialist in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in February of 1974 and continued his education at Hofstra University before he and his former wife, Janet Ferreri (Masters), traveled as much as possible and lived in Italy until his late 20’s. He continued on to a successful career in the mortgage banking industry for over 30 years. All throughout, Jim enjoyed life, family, and friends; he sought to learn something new every day and was always good for sharing a great story at just the right moment.

Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Santina Wendling and 2 grandsons, Brady and Nicholas Wendling all of Norfolk, MA. Also known as “Pop” to his grandsons, he imparted his love of history, wisdom, top notch sense of humor, and unfailing determination onto us. Jim is also survived by his former son in law, Scott Wendling of Attleboro, MA and his adored Mastroianni cousins: George, Tony, Joe, Ronnie, Nick Sr of Huntington, NY, and Nick II and his children and grandchildren of FL.

Burial services will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, a veteran’s charity supporting those who sacrifice to defend our country: active duty, veterans, first responders, and their loved ones. https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/donate/
