James W. Fahey, age 72, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Charlwell House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood on April 2, 1950, he was the son of the late William V. and Frances L. (Ferrara) Fahey. He spent his early years in Walpole, Massachusetts, before his family settled in Winslow, Maine, where Jim graduated from Winslow High School with the Class of 1969. Jim continued his education at the University of Maine in Machias, earning his bachelor's degree in 1973.
In the late 1970s, Jim returned to Walpole, Massachusetts, taking a position with Bird and Son in East Walpole, working alongside his father. After welcoming his children, James and Jessica, Jim made his home in Dedham, and assisted with the operations at Fox Hill Village, Clark House, and later Gillette Stadium. While his nine to five was in security, Jim's true passion was for writing, spending years freelancing, submitting articles to the Patriot Ledger and the Walpole Times.
Jim began writing a collection of short stories, based on his own experiences in nature, his father's war stories, and his wild imagination. He pulled inspiration from Henry David Thoreau, Ernest Hemmingway, and Ray Bradbury, and was published in various outlets, including the Twilight Zone. In 2003, Jim heard the call of Maine, and made his home in Old Orchard Beach. He continued working as a freelance writer, submitting works to the Biddeford, Saco, OOB Courier, while working on his own manuscripts. More recently, Jim returned home to Walpole, to be closer to his children and their families.
Throughout his life, Jim was a movie buff, watching westerns and vintage World War II movies. While all westerns were good, Jim truly loved all of John Wayne's films, and included The Duke in some of his own writing. Jim was delighted to see the trilogy, Lord of the Rings, as he took a great interest in the books, before they became mainstream, going so far as to name his dog "Baggins." More than anything, Jim loved being surrounded by nature, spending countless hours at Walden Pond, Bird Park, or the Walpole Town Forest.
Loving father of James Fahey and his wife, Lisa, of Foxborough and Jessica Fitzpatrick and her husband, Colin, of Dedham.
Cherished grandfather of Joshua Fahey, Keira Fahey, Cameron Fitzpatrick, and Avery Fitzpatrick.
Brother of Lorretta Porter-Fahey and her wife, Terry, of Douglas, and the late John Fahey.
Also surviving by his daughter's dog, Chief Brody Fitzpatrick, and his son's dog, Murphy Fahey.
