James M. Devine, age 69, passed away peacefully in the Walpole HealthCare Center on Friday, April 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born in his family’s South Boston, Massachusetts home on February 6, 1950, he was the son of the late Francis and Florence (McPartland) Devine. He spent his early years in South Boston before his family settled in Dorchester, where he was educated.
Following his graduation, Jim took a job as a carpenter in the construction field before starting work with William Corbo in Norwood, working as a carpet installer. He later returned to the construction field, owning and operating his own company. As a jack of all trades, there was no project too big for Jim to handle, and he completed them all with great skill.
In his off time, Jim enjoyed fishing and canoeing, as well as spending time in his wood shop. He loved listening to the music of the 50s and 60s, especially enjoying Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison, and watching Science Fiction movies. Most of all, Jim was a great friend to many and always enjoyed a good political debate with those close to him.
Jim is survived by his loving partner, Linda (Bianco) Orlando of East Walpole, his three children, Daniel J. Devine of Norton, James F. Devine of Norton, and Pamela Devine Wentworth of Belchertown, and his two grandchildren, Patrick Devine, and Aidan Devine.
He is the brother of Janet Wheeler and her husband, Bob, of Berlin, New Hampshire, Dianne Armstrong of Quincy, Helena Burdick and her husband, Richard, of Palm Harbor, Florida, Florence Barnes and her husband, John of Chesterville, Maine, Joseph Devine of Dorchester, the late Francis “Sonny” Devine and his surviving wife, Susan, of South Boston, and the late Patricia Hendershot.
Also survived by his former wife, Lorraine Tamara (McEachern) Devine, and by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jim’s Life Celebration on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2 to 5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Timothy Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016.
