James H. Delaney age 90 years died in the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on July 30, 2010. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on September 28, 1919; he was the son of the late Timothy E. and Katherine A. (Sullivan) Delaney. He graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1938. He went on to attend the New England Institute of Sanitary Science in Boston, Massachusetts, upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during World War II, in the European Theatre in the Battle of the Bulge, and was discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Upon his return, he finished his education at the New England Institute and graduated in 1957. He was a lifelong resident of Walpole, Massachusetts.
Mr. Delaney held many jobs, he worked in his brother's gas station, Ted's Sunoco, the Walpole Post Office, Dalton's Package Store, and the window at the Foxboro Race Track. In December of 1958, he opened the James H. Delaney Funeral Home in Walpole where he served as a funeral director for 40 years.
He was a Life member of the Walpole VFW Post 5188, The American Legion Thomas Crowley Post 104, the Walpole Knights of Columbus Council 1319, Irish Social Club- Norwood, former member of the Walpole Rotary Club , the Walpole Zoning Board of Appeals, Veteran Memorial Committee, and the Walpole a'" Canton Barbershoppers
For 50 years he was an Usher at the Noon time Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Beloved husband of Ellen B. (Moran) Delaney Loving father of Jay Delaney of Walpole, Kathryn A. Delaney of West Roxbury, Jeanne E. Delaney of Plymouth, and Mary E. and her husband Patrick H. Cogan of Milton. Cherished grandfather of James L. Delaney, Tarin E. Delaney, Colleen M. Delaney, Kevin D. Cogan, Grace E. Cogan, and Dennis P. Cogan. Brother of the late Katherine Golden, Irene C. McNeeley, Edward J. "Ted" Delaney, Leo F. Delaney, George B. Delaney , Bernice E. Thayer and Marjorie A. Delaney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church East Street (Route 27) at Diamond Street Walpole on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00AM. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 3-7PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery Walpole, Massachusetts . Memorial donations in his memory maybe made to: Walpole Area Visiting Nurse Association Post Office Box 252 Walpole, Massachusetts 02081.
