James P. Buckley

August 30, 1926 — April 12, 2014

James P. Buckley, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2014. Born in Boston, MA on August 30, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Annie Kelly Buckley, husband of the late Joan M. McCarthy Buckley, and brother of the late Rev. Fr. Lawrence Buckley and the late John ‘Jack” Buckley. James is the beloved father of Roseann S. Buckley Abril and her husband Todd C. Abril. He is also the loving grandfather of Bridget, Danielle and Owen Buckley-Abril, of Walpole, MA.

James graduated from Mission Grammar school and Mission High School in 1944. He served our country in the United States Navy as a member of the Navy Seabees during World War II, participating at the Battle for Okinawa. He was a resident of Mission Hill in Roxbury, before moving to both Scituate and then Norwood.

James was employed by the City of Boston as a Assessor and retired as District Director for the Board of Assessors at City Hall in Boston.

James was a long time member of St. Timothy’s Parish in Norwood. In his younger years, he played football for Mission High and also worked concessions at Fenway Park and drove a street car before working for the city of Boston. He enjoyed many summers as a young boy with cousins up in New Hampshire. And, in later years, he also enjoyed traveling and New England day trips, golf outings with his brothers, breakfast outings, daily mass and going to the dog races with many of his pals from Norwood. Mr. Buckley loved listening to and singing music and enjoyed watching college football.                

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jim’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4-8 PM and Wednesday. April 16, 2014 from 9 -9:30 AM in James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Timothy's Church Nichols Street Norwood on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will be in Saint Paul's Cemetery in Hingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Alzhiemers Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
