Jacqueline M. Shepard-Hancock, age 63, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 19, 1961, she was the daughter of Sheila A. (Lane) Shepard. Jackie was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts where she attended the local public schools. After receiving her GED, Jackie attended cosmetology school and later became a mother with the birth of her first son, Thomas.
In 1990, Jackie reconnected with a childhood friend, Mark Hancock. Their friendship blossomed into romance and soon the pair moved in together, blending their families and becoming parents again. To accommodate their growing family, Jackie and Mark moved to Malden, Massachusetts in 1993. They resided there until 1999, when they left the city for the quiet suburbs of East Walpole, Massachusetts. On November 1, 2003, after many dedicated years together, Jackie married the love of her life, Mark, in Saint Catherine's Church in their hometown of Somerville.
Jackie worked in a variety of customer service roles during her career. She worked for Dom's Sausage, the Home Depot, and Comcast, among others. Sometimes Jackie would work three jobs at once to help support her family. Her most important job though, one that she cherished above all else, was that of being a wife and mother. A natural provider, Jackie worked hard to take care of her family and ensure they had everything they needed. Jackie was always present for the important events in her family's life and was truly the glue that held them all together.
Jackie loved to celebrate with her children and make the world a magical place for them. She enjoyed celebrating the holidays and would give her family chocolates on Valentines, green carnations on Saint Patrick's Day, and Christmas eve was never complete without new pajamas and slippers for everyone. Jackie always ensured that birthdays were celebrated with a special meal, making whatever was requested by the birthday boy or girl. This was quite the treat as Jackie was a fantastic cook. She taught her children how to cook, making some of her special dishes like linguine and clam sauce, and chicken broccoli ziti, and teaching them how to properly "make a spread" for guests and events. In addition to teaching her children how to cook, she also taught them how to knit, making blankets for the family and passing on a skill that will be taught for many generations.
In the summer, Jackie could be found at the beach, perfecting her tan. She loved the feel of the sand beneath her toes and the heat of the sun on her skin. Her favorite place, as such, was in Florida, taking many trips to the Siesta Keys to soak up the rays. At home, Jackie would relax after a long day by watching some of her favorite programs like General Hospital or Chicago Fire. Jackie also loved to shop, spending hours at her favorite stores. She would never turn down a chance to have her nails done, picking colors and designs that were just as bright and vibrant as she was. Jackie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Nunna". Jackie was a loving woman, who was full of life and love, and will be greatly missed.
