J. Philip Schepis

December 9, 1928 — June 24, 2016

J. Philip Schepis, age 87, passed away in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Friday, June 24, 2016. Born in Dorchester on December 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nicolina (Miccio) Schepis. As a young boy, Phil found his love for ice hockey and took his long time role of goalie. He graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1946, after which, he took a position as an X-Ray Technician.
As the United States increased its involvement in the Korean War, Phil enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served his country as a medic while in Korea. Phil was honorably discharged in 1953, after making the rank of Corporal. Upon his return to Boston, Phil began taking classes at Boston University under the GI Bill.

He married the love of his life, Angelina Riciputi, on May 9, 1954 in Sacred Heart Parish in Bradford, Massachusetts. They made their home in Hyde Park and Phil took an internship position with the Arthur D. Little Company in Cambridge. His career with Arthur D. Little flourished and he went on to become a Biologist, serving for over 35 years. Phil and Angie welcomed their son, Joseph in 1960 and in 1980 they settled in Walpole, Massachusetts. Phil retired in1993, allowing him to spend more time in the outdoors, which he loved to do.

As an avid outdoorsman, Phil enjoyed walking through the Arboretum in Boston, freshwater fishing, camping, hiking and white water rafting. Phil was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 2 in Hyde Park where he passed along his love of the outdoors to the youth in his community. However, all of this took a backseat once the snow hit the ground and Phil could take off on one of his snowmobile adventures. He spent many winters sledding through the trails of New England with friends, always wanting the newest machine with all the bells and whistles. Most of all, he was a dedicated family man, who loved getting his family involved in some of his favorite outdoor activities.

Beloved husband of Angelina(Riciputi) Schepis.
Loving father of Joseph Schepis and his wife Marybeth of Rockville, MD.
Cherished grandfather of Christine McShea and her husband Bernie, Michelle Schepis and John Schepis and great grandfather of the late Bernard Anthony McShea.
