Henry James "Hank" Eno, Sr., age 84, passed away in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, September 29, 2016. Born in Boston on July 3, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Angie (Covey) Eno. Hank was raised in Jamaica Plain, attending the Curley School and loved playing baseball in the local park. Sadly, his Dad passed away when Hank was only 15, and Hank became the provider for his family. At the age of 16, while living on Rutland Street in Southie, Hank met Louise Rowe, who would later become his wife, beginning their 67 year relationship. On their first date, Hank took Louise to the old Boston Garden where they enjoyed watching a Bruins game together.
In 1950, when Hank turned 18, he joined the National Guard and began his boxing career, volunteering to box with a man that no one else dared to take on in the ring. His career was short lived as he was knocked out in the first round and swore he would never box again. After his time in the National Guard, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Reserve Fleet aboard the USS New Jersey, spending six months at sea. During his time at sea, the USS New Jersey made a stop in Cuba and Hank said it was the most beautiful island he had ever seen.
While still enlisted in the Navy, Hank married his wife, Louise, on August 1, 1953 and together they began raising their family in Staten Island in New York, where Hank was stationed. After his honorable discharge in August of 1956 and being awarded the National Defense Medal, Hank's career took several paths, from working as an insurance salesman, to being a Child World Store manager, to working as a tool grinder at Bird Machine, to working as a shipper for Wolkin's. Even after he retired in 1994, he worked part time at Broadway Citgo, alongside his son, until 2010.
Hank raised his family in Walpole and loved spending time with them. He served as a coach for his children's baseball and hockey teams and instilled his love for the Bruins in them. When his children were young, he bought them small black and white T.V.'s for their bedrooms, so even though it may have been bedtime, they could still watch the game. As his kids grew up, Hank loved watching the Bruins with them as often as he could.
