Helen J. Pruell, age 95, passed away on May 18, 2020 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood on July 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ellen (Collins) McGrath in Norwood, Massachusetts. She was raised in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1942. Following her graduation, Helen took a position with the bookkeeping department of the Marid Corporation in Norwood.
Helen married her beloved husband, Frank J. Pruell, on May 6, 1950 in Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood. The young couple initially made their home in Norwood, where Helen took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. As her family began to grow, welcoming her two sons, Richard and Francis, Helen moved her family to their newly constructed home on North Street Circle in Walpole. Once settled in Walpole, Helen became a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. As her sons grew up, Helen returned to work, utilizing her bookkeeping skills to secure a position with the Town of Walpole in the Tax Collector's Office. She retired as the office manager of the Tax Collector's Office in 1986.
Throughout her life, Helen loved being outdoors. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating and later she found her interest in an occasional round of golf. Her home's gardens were always well maintained, as she spent countless hours ensuring they were just right. After the work in the yard was done, Helen enjoyed feeding and watching the local birds and chipmunks, as well as spending time with her dog, Bashful. However, her week was never complete without gathering a group of neighbors and relatives over for afternoon tea in her home.
Beloved wife of the late Frank J. Pruell, loving mother of Richard J. Pruell and his wife, Carroll (Geary), of Jamestown, Rhode Island and Francis G. Pruell and his wife, Lee (O'Donnell), of Chatham. Cherished grandmother of Jonathan Pruell and his wife, Sara Jane, of Warren, Rhode Island, Natalie Pruell and her finance, Colin, of Providence, Rhode Island, Francis Pruell and his wife, Danielle, of Sudbury, Sean Pruell and his wife, Julie, of Glenview, Illinois, and Michael Pruell and his wife, Callie, of Charlestown; and great-grandmother of Oliver Pruell and William Pruell. She was sister of the late Richard McGrath, John McGrath, and Robert McGrath.
As a result of the ongoing and ever-developing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, Helen's family has decided that her funeral services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held when we return to calmer and healthier times so that we may gather without boundaries to honor, remember, and celebrate her life. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Norwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
