MR. HAROLD C. VARNEY AGE 83 YEARS DIED IN THE CARTIAS NORWOOD HOSPITAL , NORWOOD, MASSACHUSETTS ON THURSDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 13TH, 2005. Former Principal of Old Post Road Elementary School.

Born in Turner, Maine and raised in Stoneham, Massachusetts. A graduate of Stoneham High School Class of 1940 , Entered into Tufts University and transferred to Northeastern University before he went into the United States Air Force. Where he served his country during World War II as a Corporal. Upon his return home he finished his education at Boston University graduating in 1948. Went back to Tufts and earned his Masters in Education.

Mr. Varney was a Massachusetts educator for 42 years, he retired in 1990 after serving as the Principal of the Bird School and opening , in 1964 , the Old Post Road Elementary School, both in the Town of Walpole.

Mr. Varney was a member of the National Elementary Principals Association, a member of the Masons Azure Lodge Walpole, He sang bass with the Baystatesmen Barbershop Chorus, the Needham Retired Men's Glee Club, and the Union Congregational Church Choir. He was also a Deacon Emeritus at the Union Congregational Church.

Beloved husband of 55 years to Janice D. (Steely) Varney Loving father of Christine Indech, MD , Elizabeth Ranucci both of Atlanta, Earl Varney of Rose Valley, PA and Rev. Ross Varney of Newburyport. Cherished Grandfather of 11.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Memorial Service in the Union Congregational Church 55 Rhodes Avenue East Walpole on Monday, October 17th, 2005 @ 11AM. Followed by a Collation in the Church Hall. Burial was in Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to: Union Congregational Church 55 Rhodes Ave East Walpole, MA 02032 or the Walpole Visiting Nurse Assocation PO Box 255 Walpole, MA 02081. Arrnagements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home Walpole.
