Guy Hawes Newhall

September 4, 1945 — December 23, 2013

Guy Newhall died suddenly on December 23, at Milford Regional Hospital, in Milford Ma. Born to Priscilla (Chase) and Donald Newhall on September 4, 1945 Newton, Massachusetts. Guy lived in Walpole then moved to Norfolk; attending Saint Hubert's School before graduating from King Philip High School in 1966. Guy had also taken classes at Dean College.

After graduating from high school, Guy worked at Harwood Engineering until he retired in 2012. Mr. Newhall was the only one at Harwood Engineering that could make the antique blue print machine function reliably!

Guy Newhall was a resident of Norfolk for many years; and here is where he met his wife, Sandy Van Voorhis. Guy and Sandy were married on August 19, 2006. They enjoyed going to Lake Pearl and visits at The Shire, with friends Jack and Jean; and the summers on the cape with the in-laws.

Guy had a keen wit and liked to tell jokes. He loved to play board games, card games or even games on the computer. Guy enjoyed solving the most difficult logic problems.

Most recently, he started researching some of his favorite Hollywood icons at the library with an eye to share the fruits of this work with others. He was an expert on classic television and he truly missed his calling as a critic. He enjoyed comedies at the movies, and he loved interacting with people.

He was an avid comic collector. For his collection Guy used to take the train from Norfolk to Boston, a favorite past time for many years. Guy enjoyed hunting for treasures at estate sales, which he had an eye for. He was a loyal fan for the Red Sox and the Patriots. Also, one of Guy's biggest joys was making gift selections for his family, which played into his "kid" attitude about Christmas.

He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Sandra, and a brother William Newhall of Norfolk; honorary brother Ippei Ogawa of Kawasaki, Japan; parents-in-law Lee and Francena (Wells) Van Voorhis; brother-in-law Ben and wife Donica Van Voorhees of Flossmoor, Illinois ; brother-in-law Peter and wife Elise(Kaplan) of Worcester; brother-in-law Scott and Karen (Sitts) of Natick; nephew William Newhall and wife Laura (Dragon) of Uxbridge; niece Mary Miller and husband Ray of Hopedale; niece Priscilla Claus and husband Ray of Holden; nieces Kate and Tessa Van Voorhis and nephew David Van Voorhis of Natick, ;nieces Lexie Van Voorhees, Kira Van Voorhees and nephews Christian Van Voorhees , Luke Van Voorhees of Flossmoor, Illinois; nieces Selam, Sara and Shantal Van Voorhis of Worcester; nieces Sarah Brown, Hannah Brown, Jessica Moore; and nephew Adam Van Voorhis. He is also survived by several great nieces and several great nephews.

Wake will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 2-4 in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Funeral Home in Walpole, MA. A private burial will happen at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: My one Wish, P.O. Box 79, Milford Ma 01757. What better way to honor Guy than a gift that will make a very ill child smile!
