Giovannina "Jennie" (Sanfelice) Arcaro, age 97, passed away peacefully in the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester, Massachusetts on Thursday, February 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Viggiano, Italy on June 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Antoinetta (Diciero) Sanfelice. She was raised and educated in Italy, where from a young age, she learned to sew and make her own clothes.
At the age of 17, Jennie married her husband, Vincent Arcaro, on September 18, 1936, after he returned to Italy from the United States to ask for her hand in marriage. Together they returned to America and made their home in Roslindale, where Jennie took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. In an effort to help support her family, Jennie called upon her sewing skills that she learned as a child and began working as a seamstress in various Boston stores. In addition, she worked alongside her husband for several years in his tailor shop, Arcaro Bros. In 1956, Jennie and Vincent had a home built in Westwood and Jennie took a position with Alfred Fiandaca Bridal, a premier women's fashion designer in Boston. After retiring from the bridal shop, the couple finally settled in Foxborough in 1979.
Jennie enjoyed traveling and in 1971, she and Vincent took a 3-month trip around the world, seeing all the sights. Back at home, she had a wonderful talent for gardening and loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family and ensured everyone was well fed with her delicious meals.
Jennie had an absolutely beautiful life; however, it was not without overcoming tremendous obstacles along the way.
Through it all, Jennie always maintained a positive attitude and made sure that everyone in her family knew that they could overcome anything that life brings their way. She is a true survivor and will be greatly missed.
