Gertrude A. (Nowell) Dowd age 89 years died in the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Born in Medfield, Massachusetts on July 19, 1921; she was the daughter of the late Roland and Gertrude (Weir) Nowell. She graduated from Medfield High School with the class of 1939. She has been a resident of Plymouth, Massachusetts since 2005 moving there from Walpole where she spent 60 years.

Mrs. Dowd worked as the clerk in the South Walpole Post Office for 30 years. In addition she served as the Assistant Town Clerk in Walpole for 2 years.

She enjoyed shopping, playing bingo, and taking art lessons; however most especially, she loved spending time with her family.

Beloved wife of the late William S. Dowd. Loving mother of Sandy A. TeSelle of Plymouth, Nancy C. Orlando of Foxboro, and William S. Dowd of Roslindale. Cherished grandmother of Katherine Headd of ME, Patrice Stutzenberger of Plymouth, Deborah Stone of Foxboro, John Orlando, II of Foxboro, and Keith Orlando of ME, great grandmother of 7. Step mother of Patricia Dowd of PA and Elene Moore of MO. Sister of the late Margaret Nowell, Rita Nowell, Leslie Nowell, and Frances Nowell.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 12 Noon. Visiting hours are Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 10AM to 12Noon. Interment is in Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield.
