George Francis Tighe age 90 years died in the Serenity Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Wrentham, Massachusetts on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 5, 1919; he was the son of the late George F. and Isabelle (Burns) Tighe. He was a 1938 graduate for Lowell High School, and went on to earn his BA in English at the University of New Hampshire in 1942. After completing college, Mr. Tighe served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts for the past 59 years moving from Allston, Massachusetts.
He worked for the United States Postal service for 35 years in the Boston Mail Facility.
Mr. Tighe enjoyed playing baseball and was a pitcher, beginning in a Semi Professional League, before moving on to play with the Claremont Cardinals in the Professional Twin State League.
He was also a Boston Red Sox fan; and enjoyed gardening and going to the beach.
Beloved husband of Elsie G. (Biskup) Tighe. Loving father of Carol A. Sheehan of Wrentham and Paula J. Raleigh of Naples, ME. Cherished grandfather of Patrick J. Sheehan of NY, Colleen A. Sheehan of Boston, and Melissa Raleigh of Naples, ME and great grandfather of Declan Sheehan. Brother of the late Robert Tighe. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 9AM. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 4-7PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment is private.
