George E. Ryan, age 79, passed away peacefully in the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. After graduation, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country. While on active duty, he competed in a weight lifting competition, earning the title, Strongest Man in the Marines.

He and Barbara made their home together in Jamaica Plain, before moving to Roslindale and George began working as a union painter. In 1964, George was sworn in as a Boston Police Officer and shortly after transferred to the MDC Police. In 1973, George and Barbara settled in Walpole, Massachusetts to raise their family. After his retirement from the police department in 1978, George started Ryan and Son Painting Company in Walpole, which he owned and operated until 2000.

George enjoyed being outdoors, he was an avid hunter and would take any opportunity to play a round of golf. George was a long-time member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, frequently riding his Honda Goldwing and attending charity rides to gather children's toys. Most of all, George loved to travel with his wife, together they visited all the states in the continental United States as well as Alaska in their motor home.
