George W. Horsford Jr., age 63, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on October 15, 1961, he was the son of George W. and Irene E. (Will) Horsford. George was raised in Braintree, Massachusetts, and attended his hometown's Catholic high school, Archbishop Williams. After his graduation from Archies with the class of 1979, George continued his education at Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) in Dartmouth.
In 1982 George moved to Pawtucket, Rhode Island and began exploring career options. George loved music and often worked as a sound guy for his friends’ band, so he considered becoming a DJ. He held several jobs over the years but ultimately found a career path with the United States Postal Service in 1986. Based out of Mansfield, Massachusetts, George was a mail carrier for 17 years, retiring in 2003. During this time, George lived in a variety of places in Massachusetts, including Abington and Easton. In recent years, after some health difficulties, George moved into skilled care facilities, residing in Hyde Park and most recently, North Easton.
George remained interested in music all his life, especially the works of Bruce Springsteen. He was, perhaps, The Boss's biggest fan, watching him play live as often as he could and belonging to a number of social clubs, like the Spring-Nuts. In his younger years, George and his wife Carolann would pack up their supplies and their dogs and head north to camp. The pair often made their way to their favorite camping spot, Moosehead Lake in Maine, to relax and enjoy nature for a few days. George was also a film and tv buff, with over 400 titles in his collection. He enjoyed every genre, from Seinfeld and The Three Stooges to The Godfather. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Bruins, texting with his friends about each play. These friends can attest to George's great sense of humor and his ability to make everyone laugh. If you knew George, you loved him, and you could not help but smile when around him.
Beloved husband of the late Carolann (Kauppinen) Horsford.
Loving brother of Judith A. Snyder of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Susan M. Porell and her husband Mark of Raynham, Cindy L. Kissler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mary Ellen Davis and her husband Dan of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and the late Donald J. Horsford.
Cherished uncle of Susan Snyder, Danny Davis, Brian Davis, and Katie Davis.
Also survived by many extended relatives, colleagues, and friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend George's Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, from 4:00 - 5:30 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A funeral home service will follow at 5:30 PM. Interment will be private.
