George Gamache

George Gamache, Mashpee, formerly of Walpole, died unexpectedly in his home on May 21, 2016. Born in Worcester, MA on October 21, 1946, he was the son of the late Norman (Lefty) and Grace (O'Donnell). George was happily married to his wife of 46 years, Mary Ellen (MacFarlane), formerly of New Bedford. George was the proud father of son Andrew, and his wife Molly, of Natick; daughter Anne (Finnegan), and her husband David, of Richmond, VA; son Daniel, and his wife Laura, of Lynnfield; and daughter Mary (Abplanalp) and her husband Jon, of Walpole. George is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth, of Worcester and Falmouth and his brother, William, of Concord, NH. He was the brother-in-law to Susan Gamache of Concord, NH, Janet MacFarlane of Dartmouth,MA and Anne Albino of Atlanta, GA. George had many cousins and dear friends that he enjoyed staying connected to and sharing stories and histories with.

George was known as "Papa" to eight grandchildren who were the light of his life: Timothy Abplanalp, Amber Gamache, William Abplanalp, Ava Gamache, Nicholas Finnegan, Grace Abplanalp, Samuel Gamache and Thomas Finnegan. Papa was their biggest cheerleader in all aspects of their young lives and found immense joy and happiness being surrounded by them all.

George was born and raised in Worcester, MA. He attended Classical High School, graduating in 1964 and then entered Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He graduated in 1968 with a degree in Civil Engineering, and then went back to receive his Masters from WPI, graduating in 1971. He was captain of the 1967 football team & member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. He maintained a lifelong commitment to WPI and was a very active and proud alum. In 1975 George started his career with Star Market. From there he would go to work for Child World until 1992, when he then became the Founder and President of ADAM, Associates. It was in this role where he had much success as a commercial developer for many companies, such as: Best Buy,Walgreens and CVS. After moving to Mashpee, George became a commercial real estate broker for Kinlin Grover.

In 1974 George and Mary Ellen moved from Watertown to Walpole. Walpole would become their home for over thirty years and a place where George had much pride in. He enjoyed supporting his children in their various activities and always found pride in their many successes on and off the field. He also served as President of the Walpole Little League. In recent years George spent his free time attending the many activities that his grandchildren participated in, traveling with family, exploring the Cape and spending time with his family and friends. George was a man who would never turn down a request for help and provided endless support to his family. He took his role of husband, father, Papa, brother and friend very seriously and lived to be there for us all. He will forever be missed and cherished.

The Gamache family invites all to George's Life Celebration on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 4-8 PM and Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 9:30-10 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Walpole Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 58, East Walpole, MA 02032.
