George V. Brown

George V. Brown, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by his cherished family on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Born in Maplewood, New Jersey on April 5, 1926, he was the son of Edward F. and Nora J. (Lyons) Brown. He is predeceased by his 5 brothers, Edward F. of Colorado, Richard J. and Thomas J. of New Jersey, Alfred A. and Robert W. of Florida.

Upon his graduation from Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, Mr. Brown joined the United States Navy. He was employed by Prudential Financial in New Jersey and Boston from 1948 until his retirement in 1984 after 36 years of service.

Mr. Brown was a long time supporter of Walpole High School and town athletics. He coached Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball in Walpole and was an avid golfer.

Beloved husband of Diane M. (Smith) for 19 wonderful years and husband of the late Amelia (Scheck). Father of Dr. Deborah A. and her husband Dr. Francis E. Antosca of Savannah, GA and St. Augustine, FL, James T. Brown, Kelly P. and her husband David Wood of Orleans, MA. Step-father of David J. Major of Foxboro, Kenneth J. Major of Norwood, and Michael G. Major of St. Augustine, FL. Proud and loving grandfather of Charles Sweeney and his wife Jewel of South Carolina, James Sweeney and his wife Karen of Georgia, Chloe and Colleen Brown or Foxboro, Tiffany Wood and her fiancAC. Matt Silvia, Patrick "Woody" Wood and his wife Michelle, and Brian Wood all of Orleans, step-grandfather of Jacqueline, Samantha, Alexandra, Charlotte Major and Kenneth Major, Jr. Great-grandfather of Brody Wood and two great-grandchildren expected in March and July. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 11 Diamond Street, Walpole, on Saturday, Dec. 18th at 12:00 p.m. Visiting hours are Friday, Dec. 17th from 4-8 p.m. at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common St., Walpole. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Walpole.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Caritas Norwood Hospital, the Caritas Hospice nurses and caretakers at The Clarke House for their kindness and care.
