G. Francis "Gus" Mauritz, age 96 years, died in the Pond Home in Wrentham, Massachusetts on Sunday, January 12, 2014. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on November 13, 1917, he was the son of the late Gustav R. and Anna Mae (Patton) Mauritz. He graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1935 and from Burdette College with the class of 1937. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was assigned to the 93rd Bomb Group in the 8th Air Force which operated in the European Theatre of Operations. He was discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. He has been a resident of Norfolk, Massachusetts since 1953 moving there from Walpole.
Gus was employed by the United States Postal Service in the Walpole Post Office. He retired as the Post Master after 35 years of service.
He was a devoted member of Saint Jude's Parish in Norfolk and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1319 in Walpole. As an avid traveler, Gus enjoyed going to Ireland; Naples, Florida; and taking a cross country trip.
Beloved husband of the late Virginia M. (Flynn) Mauritz. Loving father of John F. Mauritz of Framingham, Robert J. Mauritz of Greer, S.C., Mary A. Mattson of Walpole and Virginia M. Sprague of Bradford. Cherished grandfather of Derek and Kimberly Mattson, Evan and Connor Mauritz, and Tanya Sprague.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Gus' Life Celebration on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 4-7PM and Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 9-9:30AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Jude's Church 86 Main Street Norfolk on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Pond Home, 289 East Street, Wrentham, MA 02093 or Boston Catholic Television, P.O. 9196, Watertown, MA 02471.
