Frederick E. Thompson passed away on October 14, 2024, at age 95. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 13, 1929, and was raised in Claverack, NY.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1950 with a degree in Economics. While at Penn, he was a member of the sprint football team and the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Fred served in the US Army active duty from 1950-1952 in Camp Pickett, VA and Augsburg, Germany and then spent 5 years in the US Army reserves.
He moved to Boston to start his career as a stockbroker with Kidder Peabody and then transferred to the Providence office and settled in Barrington. He later became a Vice President at Fleet Investment Advisors and a Galaxy Mutual Fund manager.
Fred lived in Barrington for 60 years with his loving wife Roberta, where they raised their daughter Barbara. He was an active member of St John’s Episcopal Church, the American Legion, Pop Warner Football, St Luke’s golf league, and an avid golfer and member at Agawam Hunt.
An original Patriots season ticket holder and passionate football fan, he loved going to the games with Roberta and Barbara, and later with his grandchildren. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida and Maine with friends and family.
Fred was always dedicated to family and is survived by his wife Roberta, daughter Barbara and her husband, John Isaf, of Medfield, MA, and grandchildren Jack of New York City and Meghan of Boston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: John Henry Thompson, Gus Thompson, Frances “Susie” Wedd, and Margaret “Mugs” Meyer.
All are invited to attend Fred's Funeral Service on Friday, November 1, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington, Rhode Island, 02806 at 12:00 pm, with a reception luncheon to follow. Interment will be held privately at Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington.
