Frederick C. Shannon age 77 years died in his Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Sunday, May 8, 2011. Born in Malden, Massachusetts on August 20, 1933; he was the son of the late Charles H. and Hazel E. (Moody) Shannon. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Boston with the class of 1991 with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. He has been a resident of Norfolk for 38 years moving there from Bellingham.
Mr. Shannon proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the USS Robert L. Wilson - DDE 847.
He worked for 50 years as a pressman most recently for the Boston Globe, and previously for the Boston Heald and the Dedham Transcript. He was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union (GCIU), and served as the Chapel President in the 1960's. In addition, Mr. Shannon was a licensed barber.
Mr. Shannon was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus in Foxboro, Council 6063, and was a friend of Bill W. for 35 years.
Over the past 4 years, he has attended the Norfolk Adult Day Health Center in Norwood.
He is survived by his former wife Theresa M. (Lennon) Shannon of Norfolk. Loving father of Frederick C. Shannon, Jr. of Foxboro, Gerald P. Shannon of Blackstone, Robert J. Shannon of Norfolk, Kevin M. Shannon of Norfolk, Michael S. Shannon of Norfolk, and Donna Marie Hunter of Albuquerque, NM. Cherished grandfather of 7. Brother of Harold Shannon of Huntington Beach, CA, Florence Peluso of Whitman, and the late Phyllis Russo. Nephew of Mildred and David Grimes of Vero Beach, FL. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street, WALPOLE on Thursday at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Jude's Church 86 Main St. Norfolk at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM. Interment is in the Norfolk Cemetery.
