Frederick E. "Fred" Kudryk

June 21, 1939 — September 25, 2016

Frederick E. "Fred" Kudryk, age 77, passed away peacefully at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Eugene and Sonia (Ostapchuk) Kudryk. He was raised in Jamaica Plain, where as a boy scout, he went on to become a Scout Master at a young age. Fred graduated from Boston English High School with the Class of 1957.

He worked various jobs after graduation and after marrying Helen A. Nasalski on May 9, 1965, he took a position as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service. Fred and Helen made their home together in Roslindale and shortly thereafter, Fred began his career with the Postal Police. After spending a short time in Pembroke, Fred moved his family to Walpole, Massachusetts.

After growing up in the city, he loved the idea of having his own lawn and took great pride in caring for it. Fred quickly became involved in his new community, serving as a baseball umpire for years. He umpired games for the Walpole Little League Program, the Babe Ruth League, the Walpole High School Rebels, and at the Williamsport Tournaments. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, Fred served as the community chairman for the Walpole Prison Committee, while trying to change the name to Cedar Junction.

Fred's policing career came to an end with his retirement in 1998, after spending over 30 years serving the Postal Service. After he retired, Fred found a passion for attending classic rock and roll concerts, always taking home a tee shirt as a souvenir. He was an avid Boston Sports Fan and enjoyed following horse racing. Most of all, Fred loved being social, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and would end up talking for hours.
