Frederick Merrill Ashby, age 77 years, died in his Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Born in Chattanooga, Tennesee on October 26, 1936, he was the son of the late Wilson D. and Alice L. (Hickey) Ashby. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He has been a resident of Norfolk, Massachusetts for the past 3 years moving from Ocala, Florida and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
He was a pipe fitter by trade and was a member of the Pipefitter’s Union Local 821 in Florida. Fred enjoyed taking part in Civil War Re-enactments and was the Sergeant Major in the Kilcrease Ligh Artillary, 5th Florida Battalion 3 of Hardy’s Brigade.
Loving companion of Mary C. Grover of Norfolk, MA. Brother in law of Connie Ashby of Chattanooga, TN. Also survived by his niece Debbie Brown of TN. Fred leaves many dear friends and extended family.
