Frank A. Stefansson

January 29, 1928 — October 28, 2019

Frank A. Stefansson, age 91, passed away peacefully in the Stone Rehabilitation and Senior Living Center in Newton, Massachusetts on Monday, October 28, 2019.  Born in Reykjavik, Iceland on January 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Thordur and Hilma (Anderson) Stefansson.  He was raised and educated in Reykjavik before traveling to the United States of America, landing in Boston to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Frank graduated from M.I.T. in 1951, earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Following his graduation, Frank returned home to Iceland, where he married his beloved wife, Anna Bjarnadottir, in 1952.  The young couple immigrated to the United States of America in 1953, making their home first in Norton, Massachusetts and later in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and Frank took a job with the Foxboro Company, working in the engineering department.  After settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1957, Frank took a job with Bird Johnson, (now part of Rolls Royce Naval Marine), working in the engineering department.  He served for 26 years as Chief Engineer, during the company’s rapid growth as a defense contractor. He retired in 1983.

As a man who enjoyed staying active and involvement in his community, Frank was a long-time member of the Walpole Rotary Club where he developed many friendships.  Frank’s work ethic carried through to his own home, as he was constantly making repairs and improvements as needed.  He enjoyed his quiet time too, taking on worthy opponents in his favorite games, chess and bridge.
