Frank R. Ring

February 19, 1926 — February 25, 2008

Mr. Frank R. Ring, Jr. age 82 years died unexpectedly at the Caritas Norwood Hospital on Monday, February 25th, 2008. Born in Newton Highlands, Massachusetts on February 19th, 1926, the son of the late Frank R. and Ima N. (Nailling) Ring.

Mr. Ring graduated from Mount Herman Prep School with the class of 1944, he was the captain of the hockey team there in his senior year. Originally, Mr. Ring was not allowed to play hockey at Mount Herman because of his diabetes, when he finally was allowed to play, he was made the team captain his senior year. He later graduated from Wesleyan University with the Class of 1948.

Frank Ring was a leader in the fight against diabetes. Having had Type 1 diabetes for over 70 years, he and his wife Jean established the Frank R. Ring, Jr. Fund at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, to support the clinical programs for children with diabetes. He was a long time Joslin Overseer, and a leading member of "Joslin Evening at the Pops" Committee. Mr. Ring was a man who loved to help people and always had a positive attitude.

Mr. Ring share the Walpole Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year honors in 1996 with the late Mr. George Lyons. He has been living in Walpole since 1966 moving here from Easton.

His children and wife remember the trips to New Found Lake for sailing adventures, his love of kites, and his time spent with his children whether in a hockey ring or horse riding events.

As an active member of the United Church in Walpole , he also worked tirelessly at the St John's Church on Beacon Hill to feed the homeless, which he did for 14 years

Founder and President of Applied Plastics, he held several patents, where he applied his love for gadgets and which showed his incredible mechanical abilities. Both Frank and his wife Jean loved to travel and planned a new destination every year.

Beloved husband of Jean M. (McLaughlin) Ring Loving father of David B. Ring of Newton Highlands, Lisa L. Ring of Walpole, and Carolyn N. Ring and her friend Peter DelVecchio of Cumberland, RI Brother of Virginia R. Lane of Shrewsbury, William Ring of Holliston, and the late Evelyn R. Wood also survived by many nieces and nephews

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Memorial that will be held in The United Church in Walpole 30 Common Street Walpole on Saturday, March 1, 2008 @ 11AM. Visiting hours are Friday, February 29, 2008 5pm to 8pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole . In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: the Frank R.
