Francis A. “Frank” Lally, in his 89th year, died in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Michael J. A. and Margaret A. (Sullivan) Lally. He graduated from South Boston High School with the class of 1943. After high school, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the United States and later in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, where he took part in the Philippine Liberation. Frank was discharged in 1946 as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Second Class. Upon his return from the Navy, Frank enrolled in the New England College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1952. He has been a resident of Walpole since 1960 moving from Dorchester.
He was employed as a pharmacist and began his career at the Liggett Drug Company in South Boston. Frank moved on to the Fernald State School in Waltham in 1954. In 1955, he went to work at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, where he retired in 1992 as the chief pharmacist. In addition, during the 1970’s and 1980’s he worked part time at Saint Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester.
Frank was a member of the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, the Massachusetts Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the Massachusetts State Pharmacy Association.
In his spare time, Frank enjoyed golfing, reading, working on puzzles, creating photo albums, and especially playing checkers with his grandchildren.

Loving father of Mary Jane and her husband James M. Brady of Walpole, Carol A. and her husband Richard M. Reuter of Riverside, RI, Susan M. and her husband Joseph Francis, Jr. of Mattapoisett, Nancy J. and her husband Michael C. Manty of North Attleboro, and Michael F. and his wife Kristin M. Lally of Mansfield.
Cherished grandfather of Kevin and his wife Lindsay, Ryan, and Megan Brady, Matthew and his fiance Angela, and Allison Reuter, Jessica and Jeffrey and his wife Melissa Meau, Sarah and her fiance Evan, Christine, and Caroline Manty, and Madeline and Peter Lally. Great grandfather of Ryan Cavanaugh, Jeffrey and Colin Meau, and the late Aubrey R. Meau.
Brother of Mary A. Joyce of Scituate, the late Joseph A. Lally, and the late William A. Lally.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Frank’s Life Celebration on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 4-8PM and Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10:30 – 11AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
