Francis J. Farrell

December 17, 1920 — November 7, 2017

Francis J. Farrell "Frank" passed away peacefully on November 7, 2017, just one month shy of his 97th birthday. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Daniel I. and Mary T. (Greene) Farrell. After graduating from high school, Frank began his career in the printing business, working as a monotype operator. Once the United States entered into World War II, Frank left his position, joining the Navy, to serve his country in its time of need. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations as a Machinist's Mate Second Class. In October of 1945, Frank was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to his career.

Frank married his loving wife, Margaret Isabelle Powers, on April 21, 1951. Together they made their home in Walpole in 1958, where they raised four children. Frank joined the Boston Typographical Union, working for many years before retiring from T.O. Metcalf in Boston in 1987.

In his retirement, Frank enjoyed spending time on Prince Edward Island in Canada as a seasonal resident and also enjoyed spending time in Florida during the winter months. In 1991, he sold his home in Walpole and settled into his new home in Plainville, Massachusetts, where he lived until moving to Mansfield in 2007. During one of his trips to Florida, Frank met his longtime love, Betty Leyland. Together Frank and Betty enjoyed dancing together and he always kept in contact when they weren't together.

Throughout his life, Frank was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was overjoyed when he saw them break the curse and win the World Series. He enjoyed quiet time too, bird watching and reading about historical events and the Boston Globe sports page.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret Isabelle (Powers) Farrell.
Loving father of Robert F. Farrell and his spouse, Bruce, of Los Angles, California, Susan M. Farrell and her spouse, Sharon, of Watertown, Peter J. Farrell and his spouse, Anne, of Mansfield, and Jean M. Josephs and her spouse, Jack, of North Andover.
Cherished grandfather of Eric Josephs, Ellen Farrell, Lauren Josephs, and Michael Farrell.
Brother of the late Edna Todesca and Fr. Gerard Farrell.
Also mourned by his longtime love, Betty Leyland of Ontario, Canada.
