Francis W. Donovan, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. March 29th, 2025, at South Shore Hospital. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Francis T. and Mary (Lazzeri) Donovan. He was raised in Dedham, Massachusetts where he graduated from Dedham High School. He furthered his education at Northeastern University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
Francis was an Oracle discrete manufacturing software engineer and business management consultant. As a consultant, he had many opportunities for travel in the US and UK. He enjoyed the trips more than the work but was exceedingly accomplished in his profession.
Francis was very close to the Lazzeri side of his family, his cousins thought of him as a brother, and he stayed in touch throughout their lives. Though not openly sentimental, he was an amazing caregiver to his mother, Mary, when her health was declining. He told his wife many stories about her, and the love was beautifully genuine. He also tried very hard to keep his younger brother in line with all his trials and tribulations. Francis often hosted his Uncle Robert for Patriot games at the house and joined his Aunt Helga for luncheons.
With his new family, he was the father who stepped up. A consummate bachelor, he married Angela Phillips, in August of 2019 and happily accepted her 5-year-old twins. Francis happily taught them pranks, showed them the classic cartoons, and showed them the wonders of The Pink Panther Movies, and The Three Stooges (often singing “Oh Elaine” from one episode to our daughter).
Francis’ other love included excellent rock n’ roll, “20th Century Man” by the KINKS being his favorite. As a family we spent many hours gathering listening to all the greats. With his wife, we shared special moments with The Righteous Brothers “Unchained Melody” it never failed to bring tears to our eyes. He was also an avid sports fanatic, and really should have been a referee or coach, simply because he always KNEW the right calls!
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Phillip Donovan; Uncles Alfred Lazzeri and Robert Lazzeri; aunts Frances Buckley, and Vera Turchette.
He is survived by his wife of almost 9 years Angela Donovan; stepchildren Elaine and Jack Phillips of Norfolk, MA. Aunt Helga Lazzeri of Dedham, MA; as well as several cousins and numerous friends, acquaintances.
Family and friends are invited to join Francis' family for a memorial service on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at 10:00 am at in the Franklin Ave section of Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, in Norwood. Arrangements are under the care of the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.
Special thanks to the entire CCU staff at South Shore Hospital who cared for Francis in his final days and offered great support to his family. Much love to nurse Emily and everyone who was there the night Francis left this earthy plane to take his place amongst the stars.
