Ethel Lee Brown

Ethel Lee (Franklin) Brown, age 91, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Laurel Ridge Rehabilitation and Skilled Care in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anne (Grossberg) Franklin. Ethel was raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and graduated from Boston Public Schools.

Ethel was a city girl her whole life, moving to the Brighton neighborhood of Boston in the 1960's to raise her family. She worked a variety of jobs over the years to support her three boys including working as an envelope typist, at the Music Suppliers in Needham, and as a secretary for the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston.

Ethel was a hardworking and determined woman with an indomitable spirit. She did her best to take care of her family and give them opportunities even in the face of adversity. She was an independent and private woman who enjoyed the freedom that living in the city allowed her. Ethel enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and, later, her great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Gramma Brown. She enjoyed trips to the Casino with Eddie to play blackjack, dining out at her favorite restaurants with Stephen, and spending time down the Cape with Robert, to which she was lovingly chauffeured by Ed. She will be greatly missed.
