Emmanouel Smpraos

Emmanouel Smpraos, age 86 years, died in the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, Massachusetts on Friday, October 18, 2013. Born in Athens' Greece on May 17, 1927, he was the son of the late Evangelos and Evangeline (Vahatella) Smpraos. He was both raised and educated in Greece. Emmanouel earned degrees in both Engineering and Political Science from Pantios University in Athens, Greece. He later graduated from Miller Memorial Bible College in Canada. He went on to earn his Master's Dregee in Christian Education and his Doctorate in Theology.

Early in his career, he worked for the Greek Government as an Engineer for 3 years, evaluating homes effected by earthquakes. Emmanouel went on to become a Minister in Greece, beginning as the Assistant Minister in Katerini and becoming the Pastor of the 2nd Evangelical Church in Athens, where he remained for 25 years. When he came to the United States, he served as the Pastor of the Newton Evangelical Greek Church. He retired as the Pastor of Greek Evangelical Church in Ioannia, Greece after 3 years.

Emmanouel lived in Walpole for the past 16 years, prior to that he lived in Ioannia, Greece for 3 years, Needham, MA, and Athens, Greece

Emmanouel was an Officer in the Greek Army. He proudly served during the Greek Civil War.

Emmanouel taught Greek in the Greek Church and Westwood Evangelical Free Church. He also taught Sunday School and Bible Studies in the Greek Church, Westwood Evangelical Free Church, and the United Church of Norwood.

Beloved husband of Diana G. (Kuckuck) Smpraos and the late Coula Smpraos. Loving father of Evangeline Smpraos of Attleboro, Alexandra and Dimitrios Voliotis of Greece, and Phoebe and David Christensen of Attleboro. Cherished grandfather of Daniel Christensen, Emmanuel Gardner, Jason Voliotis, and Timothy Christensen. Brother of Gregory Smpraos of Greece, Mary Ferrendinos of Greece, and the late Anastasia Papadopoulos.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Emmanouel's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 4-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Burial will take place at the Gardens of Gethsemane 670 Baker Street West Roxbury on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 9:00 AM. A memorial service will be held in the Emmanuel Baptist Church 63 Rockwood Road Norfolk on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
