Ellen N. (Leadbetter) Laurie, age 79, passed away in her Sharon, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Julia (O'Leary) Leadbetter. She was raised in Quincy, Massachusetts and graduated from Quincy High School with the Class of 1956. Ellen went on to continue her education at the Quincy Hospital School of Nursing, earning her R.N. in 1959. After graduation, she took a nursing position with Quincy Hospital.
While working at the hospital, Ellen met her husband to be, Robert S. Laurie by a chance encounter. They were married on October 6, 1961 in Hudson, New Hampshire and initially made their home in Hartford, Connecticut, where Ellen quickly found work at the Hartford Hospital. The couple spent a short time living in Falmouth, where Ellen worked as a home nurse. Shortly after, they settled into their home in Sharon, Massachusetts. Ellen took a position with the Godard Hospital in Stoughton in the labor and delivery department and later after merging with Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, she was the nurse in charge of the delivery room. She retired in 2001 after 40 years of dedicated service. She was asked to return to the hospital per diem after her retirement, and she gladly helped whenever she could.
She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and actively participated whenever she could. In her retirement, Ellen enjoyed spending her winters in Cape Coral Florida with her husband, Bob, and close friends. The two loved traveling all over the world with family and friends.
