Elizabeth Ann Bogardus, age 48, passed away in Spaulding Hospital Cambridge/Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Friday, April 15, 2016. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 13, 1967, she was raised in East Granby, Connecticut and graduated from East Granby High School with the Class of 1985. She continued her education at Lesley University, earning her Bachelor's Degree in 1989.
Elizabeth began her teaching career in the public school system in Spring, Texas where she worked after graduation through 1996. She then moved back to New England, settling in Foxborough, Massachusetts. She quickly earned employment with the Walpole Public School System in the Eleanor Johnson Middle School. It was here where she found her niche in 6th Grade Social Studies and served as their Team Leader. Elizabeth started the Johnson Middle School Move Up Program and planned many school Carnivals and events. Her life passion was teaching and working with students, spending much time caring and counseling them on her own time after school.
Elizabeth earned her Masters of Education Degree from Lesley University in 2000. She moved to Franklin, Massachusetts in 2007 where she purchased her home. In 2014, Elizabeth retired from her teaching career, after 25 years of dedicated service.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed antiquing, crafting, and blogging. She also enjoyed attending theatrical shows with friends and traveling with her family. Some of her most memorable trips were to Disney World, Italy, and New York City, all with family. Most of all, she loved spending time on the water, especially when she was with her family at Lake Winnisquam in NH or in Ogunquit, ME.
Elizabeth's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of her Doctors and Medical staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and most recently the Spaulding Hospital, for their dedication and the wonderful care she received.
Devoted daughter of Adelbert J. "Bogie" and Dorothea (Matthews) Bogardus of East Granby, CT. Loving sister of Kathleen and her husband David Averill of Walpole. Cherished Auntie of Andrew (her Godson), Sean, and Julia all of Walpole, and her "favorite" Cooper (the family dog). Also survived by many members of her extended family and friends.
