Elinor J. Springer

Mrs. Elinor J. Springer (Edwards) age 89 passed away in the Caritas Norwood Hospital on Friday, January 26, 2007

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, she was raised and educated in Boonton, New Jersey. Elinor was a graduate of Boonton High School class of 1935. She then went on to Morris Junior College in Morristown, New Jersey and graduated with the class of 1937. Elinor also attended the Moon Secretarial School on 5th Avenue in New York City.

She then moved back to Booton, NJ for a time. She was President of the Emanon Club. Emanon is No Name spelled backwards, since nobody could come up with a name for the club.

Shortly thereafter, she met her first husband, Eugene J. Breifing. Elinor and Eugene moved to Lexington, Kentucky. While Eugene attended the University of Kentucky, Elinor volunteered as Program Chairwoman at the University of Kentucky Dames Club. Elinor and Eugene then moved to Kinston, NY, where she was the Ulster County Chairwoman of the Girl Scouts and also a Community Chest Member.

They then moved on to Poughkeepsie, NY, where she was very active in numerous clubs: She was the Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 37 Charter member of the Coterie Club Treasurer of the Newcomers Club Chairwomen of the Tri-County Easter Seals Publicity Chairwomen of the Chamber of Commerace Women's Auxiliary Elinor was on the Board of Directors for the Poughkeepsie YMCA as well as the Treasurer of the Ways and Means Committee. She was a member of the Garden Club in Poughkeepsie. While living in Poughkeepsie her husband Eugene passed away in October 1962. In 1964 Elinor met a gentleman by the name of Charles G. Springer. They were married in 1965 where they spent 20 loving years together, prior to the death of Charles in 1985 In 1995, Elinor decided to move to Walpole, MA to live with her daughter Jane.

She attended the Walpole Senior Center, where Jane works. She also attended the Norfolk Adult Day Health Center in Norwood, MA.

Beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Breiding and the late Charles G. Springer. Loving mother of Jane E. Wulk and her husband Daniel J. of Walpole, MA, Anne M. Cunningham of Kingston, NY, and John E. Breiding and his wife Elynor of Seal Beach, CA. Loving step mother of Patricia (Springer) Martin and her husband Arthur of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Donald Springer and his wife Sherry of Dahlonega, GA. Cherised grandmother of Brett Juchem of Troy, NY, and Katherine Breiding of Seal Beach, CA. Step grandmother of 4 and step great grandmother of 4 Sister of William Edwards of Boonton, NJ. Also survived by 3 nephews, many cousins, and her Godson Robert Goin of Oakland, NJ.

Visiting hours and funeral services will take place at the Lewis & Carey Funeral Home 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ.
