Eleanor J. Demus

October 11, 1938 — December 28, 2022

Eleanor J. (Manning) Demus, age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at her home in East Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Brookline, Massachusetts on October 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary (Mayock) Manning.  She was raised in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston with her siblings, John, Jr., Mary, Lorraine, and Dennis.  As a young woman, Eleanor got her start in retail with Sears and Roebuck in Fenway.

Eleanor married her beloved husband, Arnold W. Demus, on October 11, 1958, in Holy Name Church of West Roxbury.  The young couple made their home together in Back Bay before settling in Walpole two years later, where Eleanor took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family.  In 1970, Eleanor and Arnold moved their family to East Walpole, making their home on Old Post Road.  As her children grew up, Eleanor returned to her retail career, taking a position at Bradlee's at the Walpole Mall.  She went on to work as a sales associate at Cummings Dress Shop in Norwood center and Filene's Basement in Dedham.  After her husband established his company, CCR Equipment Rental, Eleanor began running his office, ensuring all the books were up to date and all the equipment was tracked.  She continued running the office until her retirement in 2005.

While Eleanor worked in retail, she was really on the lookout for her next purchase.  She loved shopping and finding the perfect new dress to wear on her next trip with her husband, Arnold.  Together, they traveled throughout Europe, exploring destinations in many countries, and spending time soaking up the sun on the beaches.  Back at home, Eleanor loved spending time in her kitchen, baking brownies, blueberry cakes, or apple pie.  More than anything, Eleanor was devoted to her family, treasuring every moment surrounded by those she loved, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
