Eleanor W. "Betty" (Wilson) Barrett age 90 years died surrounded by her loving family in the Highgate Manor in Dedham, Massachusetts on Monday, December 10, 2012.Born in Arlington, Massachusetts on October 30, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Daisy (Parsons) Wilson.She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1940 and from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1944.After graduating, Mrs. Barrett proudly served her country in the United States Army during World War II as a nurse in the Phillipines.
She has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts since 1950, moving from Lexington, MA and Middlebury Vermont.
Mrs. Barrett worked at the Walpole VNA and then was the nurse at Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole and then in the elementary schools in the Town of Walpole for 20 years, retiring in 1988.She volunteered her time at Norwood Hospital for many years.
She was a member of the Walpole Women's Club and the Tuesday Night and Thursday Night Bridge Groups.She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader.
Mrs. Barrett was a devoted member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Walpole.At Epiphany she was a member of Saint Agatha's Altar Guild, was Village Fair Chairperson, and was the second woman to serve as a member of the Vestry.
She loved to travel and was very adventurous, enjoying camping at Maidstone Lake in Vermont.She also enjoyed her flower garden and was an avid Patriots fan, holding season tickets at the old Schaffer Stadium.Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and hosting celebrations at her Common Street home.
Beloved wife of the late Charles E. Barrett. Loving mother of Jay E. Barrett of Walpole, Charles E. Barrett of Bradford, VT, Bruce J. Barrett of Canaan, NH, and Jo-Ann Barrett of East Walpole. Cherished grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 5. Sister of Ruth Doran and Ethel Caouette both of Lexington, the late George Wilson, the late Marjorie Ingham, the late Dorothy Montague, and the late Jean Wilson.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service that will be celebrated at Epiphany Episcopal Church 62 Front Street Walpole on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM.Visiting hours are Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole.Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Epiphany Parish, 62 Front Street, Walpole, MA 02081.
