Edwin R. Johnson of Walpole, a retired fiber and textile purchasing manager with the Kendall Company, passed away in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Born in Newton, Massachusetts on March 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Albert and Emma (Hurtig) Johnson. He graduated from Dartmouth College and its Amos Tuck Graduate School of Business. Mr. Johnson proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
He began his textile career with the Kendall Company in Walpole in 1948 and after assignments in South Carolina and Griswaldville, MA, he returned to Walpole in 1965 as plant manager. He also was director of planning for the Fiber Products Division before being moved to the corporate office in Boston as purchasing manager for fibers and textiles. In 1988, he was transferred to the Veratec Division of the International Paper Company in Walpole when a part of Kendall was sold to that company. During his career, he became a member of the Northern Textile Association and was the past president of the Textile Club of Boston. He retired in 1991.
After his retirement, Mr. Johnson took a part time staff member position of the Enquiries Division of the New England Historic Genealogical Society of Boston. He had also been a past president of the Toastmasters Club in Walpole, past RTM member, and past Sunday School teacher at United Church in Walpole.

Loving father of Thomas of Walpole and Elizabeth Kohn and her husband Peter of Plymouth.
Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Servies and Heather Kohn.
Brother of Virginia Edelstein of Los Angeles.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 2-5PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A funeral service will be held in the United Church of Walpole, 30 Common Street, Walpole on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
