Edward Ralph Splaine, age 79, passed away on February 13, 2025, at Brockton VA Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on February 28, 1945, he was the son of Amory and Phyllis (Jackson) Splaine. Ed spent his early years in Somerville, but was primarily raised in Lexington, Massachusetts. He attended the local public schools and was active in baseball, football, and bowling. After his graduation from Lexington High School with the class of 1963, Ed continued his education at Mass Bay Community College, receiving an Associate’s degree in Communications.
In March of 1966, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy, ready to serve his country. He utilized the skills he learned while earning his associates degree to achieve the rank of Communications Yeoman 3. After spending a year at sea, Ed was honorably discharged in December of 1969.
Upon his return home, Ed found work at Gillette in South Boston as a computer programmer. He worked there for many years before taking a similar position with the William Underwood Company, where he worked for 12 years, first in Watertown, and later in Westwood. While at Underwood, Ed would meet the love of his life, Donna E. Sestito. The pair were married on August 18, 1984, in Dedham, Massachusetts. The newlyweds briefly made their married home in Dedham before settling in Medway, Massachusetts. In 1991, Ed and Donna moved to Walpole and in 1997 Jared was born. Ed joined State Street Bank in 1999 in Quincy, Massachusetts and worked as a senior programmer/analyst until his retirement in 2009.
He was a devoted father who loved sharing his passions with his son Jared. Ed was a jack of all trades and very handy around the house. He worked on many home improvement projects, making their home perfect for his family. Ed passed on these skills to his son Jared, teaching him everything necessary to make his own house a home. Ed's favorite sport was golfing and loved to golf with Jared when he was in high school. He was thrilled that Jared enjoyed athletics as much as he did, making sure to never miss a game that Jared played in; baseball as a young boy, football at Walpole High, and driving out to Westfield State to see him play football in college.
Ed enjoyed traveling and sightseeing across the country with wife and son. They made many trips to the West Coast, visiting Utah, Seattle, and Sedona. They visited Walt Disney World and Washington, DC. Closer to home, Maine was always a welcome destination.
Ed was enthusiastic about sports, whether he was playing or watching someone else play. A perfect afternoon ended with either a Boston Red Sox, Celtics, or Patriot's game. Ed's favorite sport though was golf. He was a golf enthusiast and was never one to turn down an opportunity for tee time. Ed loved getting together with his son and his friends to get in some time on the greens. He played locally at the Walpole Country Club but also enjoyed playing down Cape Cod and up in New Hampshire.
Beloved husband of Donna E. (Sestito) Splaine
Loving father of Jared E. Splaine and his fiancée Audrey Zaborowski of Lunenburg
Brother of the late Beverly Splaine, John F. Splaine, and Judy Huard
Also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as Jared's dog Misty, who he adored.
