Edward J. Letscher, III

September 17, 1935 — August 13, 2022

Edward J. Letscher, III, age 86, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Medway Country Manor in Medway, Massachusetts.  Born in Yonkers, New York on September 17, 1935, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Downing) Letscher.  He was raised in Yonkers, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1953.  Edward continued his education at Manhattan College in the Bronx, earning his bachelors degree, with a focus on Electrical Engineering, in 1957.  Following his graduation, Edward took a position with Airborne Instruments.

While working at Airborne, Edward met his wife to be, Constance E. Spaargaren, leaving a cup of coffee on her desk in hope of gaining her attention.  The moved paid off, and they were married on September 17, 1961, truly the most special birthday Edward ever had.  After the wedding, the young couple made their home in St. Louis and later in several towns in upstate New York, following various job opportunities offered to Edward.  His career spanned several companies, including General Electric, Digital Equipment, and Raytheon.  In 1971, Edward settled in East Walpole, Massachusetts, with his wife and four children, and took a position with the Foxboro Company.  Two years later, Edward and Constance formed their own company, GSI Systems, Inc.  He went on to found Distribution Computer Systems and Somerset Consultants before his retirement in 2000.

While he worked hard, Edward always put his family first.  As a young Dad, he eagerly volunteered to coach his children's Little League teams and served as an assistant coach for the Walpole Youth Hockey Program.  He was delighted at the birth of his grandchildren, taking every opportunity to spend time with them whenever he could.  However, more than anything, Edward was truly dedicated to his wife.  As a devout Catholic, he pulled upon his faith to assist him in caring for his wife during her prolonged illness, allowing her to stay in the comfortable surroundings of her own home.

Beloved husband of the late Constance E. (Spaargaren) Letscher.

Loving father of Nora McGauley and her late husband, Walter, of Newton, Gregory Letscher and his wife, Diana, of Valley Springs, California, Amy Dunn and her husband, Jared, of Oakdale, California, and David Letscher and his wife, Carolyn, of Wrentham.

Cherished grandfather of Colleen McGauley, Katie McGauley, Jaramy Letscher-Dunn, Shane Letscher-Dunn, Carsen Dunn, Brain Letscher, Brody Letscher, and Austin Letscher.
