Edward H. Gorham

July 22, 1944 — September 29, 2019

Edward H. Gorham, age 75, passed away peacefully in his Mashpee, Massachusetts home on Sunday, September 29, 2019, with his loving wife, Patti, by his side.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 22, 1944, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Teresa (Bernard) Gorham.  He spent his early years in Jamaica Plain before settling in Norfolk at the age of seven.  Ed graduated from King Philip Regional High School with the Class of 1963, where he was a three-season athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball.  Following his graduation, Ed took a job with Mitchell Contracting, learning the masonry trade.  His work was interrupted by his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was inducted into the Army in January of 1966, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division.  Ed was honorably discharged in December of 1967 after earning the rank of Specialist.

Upon his return from the Army, Ed settled in his hometown of Norfolk and resumed work with Mitchell Contracting.  In 1975, Ed ventured out on his own, starting Gorham Masonry and began taking classes at Newbury College, earning his associate’s degree in 1977.  Ed formed a partnership with Ed Patch, creating a new company, American Masonry, Structures, and Design.  As a man who truly enjoyed working, Ed was always looking to better himself at his job, finding at home courses offered by Chicago Technical College, teaching plan reading, building construction, estimating, and construction math.  He spent more than thirty-five years in the construction industry before his retirement in 2013.  While work remained an important factor in Ed’s life, he also enjoyed cutting loose, hitting the open road in one of his convertibles or on his Harley.

Ed married his beloved wife, Patricia A. O’Connell, on August 11, 2007.  The couple made their home together in Bourne prior to his retirement before settling into Southport in Mashpee in 2015.  Ed loved being on the Cape; as an avid boater, he was a member of the Bourne Yacht Club; as an avid golfer, he loved spending time on his home course at Southport; and he was a life member of the Wareham Elks.  While he loved the Cape, Ed and Patti always looked forward to escaping to Bonita Springs, Florida every winter.

Beloved husband of Patricia A. (O’Connell) Gorham and the late Dorothy “Dolly” (Schaefer) Gorham.
Loving father of Edward H. Gorham, Jr. of Attleboro and stepfather of Kelly Moore and her husband John “Rusty” of Uxbridge.
Cherished grandfather of Jessica Gorham of Franklin, Avery Moore of Uxbridge, and Connor Moore of Uxbridge.
Brother of Paul Gorham of Washington, the late Arthur Gorham, the late Daniel Gorham, and the late James Gorham.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ed’s Life Celebration on Monday, October 7, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church, 3 Job’s Fishing Road, Mashpee on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA of Cape Cod, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.
