Edward A. Eklund

Edward A. Eklund age 90 years died in his Franklin, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, New York on August 5, 1922, he was the son of the late August and Bertha (Pearson) Eklund. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York. Mr. Eklund proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Private First Class and served in the Air Transport Command stationed in Hawaii as an airplane mechanic, preparing our Nation's planes for combat. He has been a resident of Franklin, Massachusetts since 2001 moving there from Amityville, New York.

His working career was spent as a truck driver, working for the Local 282 Teamsters throughout New York.

Mr. Eklund was a proud member of the American Legion Post 0462 in Boston.

Edward was an avid lover of "big dogs" (Tex, Skip, Checkers, Dugan, Katie, and Cookie) throughout his life who were near and dear to his heart. A car enthusiast he was most fond of Cadillacs and American made GM Automobiles. His family meant the world to him and his love for music included Kate Smith and Andrea Bocelli.

Loving brother of the late Eleanor Burk. Beloved uncle of Linda and her husband Jack Glennon of Walpole and Teresa and her husband Stephen Vejvoda of Wilmington, NC. Great uncle of Jack and Amy Glennon of Westboro, Christopher Glennon of Foxboro, Amy and Jeff Steinhauser of Brooklyn, NY, Deanna and Richard Wilke of Chapel Hill, NC, and Lauren Vejvoda of Chapel Hill, NC. Also survived by 8 loving great great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Edward's Life Celebration on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 2-5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 9:30AM. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne with Military Honors at 11:30.
