Edward H. Ammidown

Edward H. Ammidown, III, age 68, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis on Monday, May 22, 2017. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on December 7, 1948, he was the son of the late Edward H. Ammidown, Jr. and Helen G. (Brennan) Ammidown. He was raised in East Walpole, Massachusetts, where as a young boy Ed loved playing baseball and hockey and looked forward to the family's summer camping trips to Papoose Pond in Maine and Curlew Pond at Myles Standish State Forest. Upon entering Walpole High School, Ed quickly became a two-season athlete playing baseball and competing in wrestling. His father's illness after his sophomore year meant that he had to leave sports behind, and Ed took a job outside of school with the Kendall Company in Walpole to help support his family. Ed continued his studies at Walpole High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. He went on to earn his Associates Degree in Computer Science at Bryant & Stratton College in Boston in 1968.

After graduation, Ed worked various jobs before taking a position with Philbrick Nexus, where he met his soon to be wife, Judith A. Buck in 1970. Ed served in the Naval Air Reserve out of Weymouth from 1971-1976. He married his beloved Judy soon after he finished his active duty assignments on July 17, 1971 in Norfolk, Massachusetts. The young couple made their home together in Plainville, and Ed took a position with Knox, Inc in Walpole as an Electronics Technician. After Hydralign, Inc. formed as a spinoff from Knox, Ed settled into his career and moved his young family to Mansfield, Massachusetts in 1975. Hydralign was purchased by Butler Automatic and Ed's office moved from Walpole to Middleboro until his retirement in 2015.

Ed enjoyed being an active member of his community in Mansfield. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was a member and officer of the Mansfield Jaycees, was a regular attendee at Town Meetings, and loved coaching his sons in their youth soccer program. He was a voracious reader and a regular presence at the Mansfield Public Library. He had a lifelong love for sports, following all the New England teams, but most of all his beloved Red Sox. Ed was an avid golfer, even when his game frustrated him, he loved any day he could spend chasing his golf ball. Although Ed had a reputation as a quiet man, he was known to bring a whole room to its knees in laughter with a well-timed remark.

Family meant everything to Ed. He was a loving husband to Judy and the two loved traveling together, taking memorable trips to Bermuda, Prince Edward Island, Basin Harbor in Vermont, the York Harbor Inn in Maine. In recent years, he enjoyed playing the role of elder statesman at gatherings of the Brennan clan. After the birth of his granddaughters, Ed was overjoyed at the idea of being a grandfather and cherished every moment he spent with them.

Cherished grandfather of Olivia Sharon Ammidown, June Chronister Ammidown, and Mackenzie Judith Ammidown.
Brother of the late Nancy A. Kelter.
Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ed's Life Celebration on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 5-8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:00 in the Rural Cemetery on Pemberton Street in Walpole.
