Edmund Leo Walukevich

December 23, 1924 — November 1, 2013

Edmund Leo Walukevich, 88, passed away on November 1, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was the husband of the late Jennie Frances (Zuke) Walukevich, who died in 2006.

Edmund, the son of the late Konstanty and Rosalia (Dzuibanuik) Walukiewicz, was born and raised in East Walpole, MA.

He graduated from Walpole High School in 1943 where he played baseball, hockey and football. As a teenager he was a member of the Red Sox practice squad. Upon graduation, he joined the Army and served in World War II. He was among the many brave men who landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Twice wounded he received the Purple Heart with Oak Cluster for his service. After leaving the Army he played Triple A baseball for several teams including Rochester and Elmira as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Edmund was the proud owner of the East Walpole Cash Market, which served the community for over 50 years.

In 1941 Edmund married his childhood sweetheart Jennie Frances Zuke of South Norwood, MA. They were happily married for 57 years. Edmund was a member of the E. Walpole Volunteer Fire Department, the Elks and the VFW. He was a communicant of St. Mary Church, E. Walpole, MA. He enjoyed local sports teams and shared his advice and expertise with many aspiring young athletes.

He is survived by his sons: Paul and wife Colette of N. Attleboro; Michael and wife Victoria of East Walpole, Mark and wife Anna of Chelmsford. Also survived by his grandchildren: Paul Jr. and fiancAC.e Caitlin Mulcahy of Bellingham, Laura Dalrymple and husband Jason of East Walpole, Amanda Stone and husband Michael and Veronica Walukevich all of East Walpole; Katherine, Nicholas, and Thomas Walukevich of Chelmsford; his step-grandchildren Andrew and Michelle Jaquint of Chelmsford. He took great joy in and is also survived by great granddaughters Cora Dalrymple and Hadley Stone of East Walpole. He is also survived by his sister Rose Donnelly of Medfield along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Anne Walukevich, Blanche Libertowicz, Jennie Kraw, and Wanda Benkavitch.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 4-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
