Edmund L. McNamara, Jr., age 57, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Born in Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton on November 2, 1960, he was the youngest son of Boston Police Commissioner, Edmund L. McNamara, and his wife Marie E. (Ellis) McNamara. He was raised in West Roxbury, where as a standout athlete, he excelled at both football and baseball. His football skills were showcased at Catholic Memorial High School, as he played quarterback on the varsity football team. After graduating from C.M. with the Class of 1978, he attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and shortly after, Ned began his computer career at Dickinson Printing in Boston.
Ned met his soon to be wife, Kathleen M. Lynch, by chance one night at the Halfway Café in Dedham. They were married on April 3, 1992 in Saint Mary's Church in Dedham and initially made their home together in Norwood. The young couple settled into their home in South Walpole, Massachusetts in 1994, where they welcomed their three children, Jessica, Nicole, and James. Once Dickinson was sold, Ned became a stay at home Dad, raising and caring for his three children. As they grew up. Ned returned to work at Allied Barton Security.
As an avid Boston sports fan, Ned regularly cheered on his hometown teams. However, it was Ned's love for football that stood out the most. He served as a football referee for the Pop Warner Football League and later while his son played football for the Walpole Rebels, he volunteered his time to run the chains on the sidelines. Ned also enjoyed cooking for his family and watching the Phantom Gourmet, which he would regularly discuss with his sister, Anne Marie, to find new recipes to test out.
Beloved husband of Kathleen M. (Lynch) McNamara.
Loving father of Jessica M. McNamara, Nicole C. McNamara, and James T. McNamara all of South Walpole.
Devoted brother of Anne Marie McNamara of Boston, Frances D. McNamara of Boston, Michael J. McNamara and his wife Barbara of Norwood, and Dorothy M. Teehan and her husband Mark of Franklin.
