Edmond Patrick Murphy

March 17, 1933 — October 5, 2018

Edmond Patrick Murphy, Jr., age 85, passed away in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Friday, October 5, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 17, 1933, he was the son of the late Edmond Patrick and Helen (Canty) Murphy. He was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Mission High School with the Class of 1951. Following graduation, Ed was inducted into the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955, and returned to his hometown of Boston, where he found work with the Norfolk County Trust. Ed also began taking classes at Northeastern University, earning credits toward his Business Degree, which he was granted in 1959.

Ed married his beloved wife, Elizabeth E. Nickerson, on June 20, 1964 in Saint Mary's Church in Taunton. The young couple made their home together in Walpole, where they raised their seven children. As a devoted father, Ed spent countless hours coaching Walpole Pop Warner Football and Walpole Little League for his children's many teams.

As the Norfolk County Trust endured several name changes and mergers over the years, Ed remained a vital part of the organization. His strong work ethic and desire to help his customers led him to the position of Vice President of Sales in the loan department of BayBank. In addition to his position with BayBank, Ed also owned Murphy Trucking for 25 years, operating dump trucks and renting them to Lorusso Corporation and to many plowing operations. He proudly employed his sons and daughter in laws, truly creating a local family operated business. Ed retired from BayBank in 1992, after 40 years working in the banking field.

In his down time, Ed loved following the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. As a proud U.S. Army veteran, he was a long-time member of the Walpole VFW Post 5188. However most of all, Ed loved being surrounded by his family and close friends.
