Edith J. Bowen

December 22, 1926 — February 5, 2016

Edith J. Bowen passed peaceably to eternal rest on February 5, 2016.

Edith was born to Mira K. and John R. Burhoe in the family home on Pleasant Street East Walpole on December 22, 1926. Edie was the youngest of four; her siblings Ethel Darling, Margaret "Peggy" Farris and George Burhoe all predeceased her.

Edie was a real Walpole girl, attending Bird School and graduating Walpole High class of 1944. She worked at Bird and Son until her marriage to US Army Sgt Kenneth Bowen.

As an Army wife she lived in Germany, Pennsylvania, France and Kentucky. Each was a special experience and provided warm memories, but Edie was most happy when Ken retired from the Army and in 1962, she, Ken, Kenny and Libby returned home to Walpole.

Edie is survived by: Kenneth Bowen Jr. and Mary (Ratigan) of Lakewood CO and Libby and Paul Watson of Dennis Port MA. Edie's four granddaughters are: Penny (Bowen) Bishop, Emily (Watson) Brutti, Molly (Bowen) Trobec, and Susan Watson.
She leaves 3 great-grand children: Jonah, Justin Jr. and Harper Trobec of Colorado. She has many nieces and nephews, Burhoe and Bowen descendants, located around the country.

For over 20 years, Edie enjoyed a career with the Northrup Corp. in Norwood MA, retiring in 1988. She cherished her memories and especially her lifelong friends from Northrup.

Edie loved music, Cape Cod, reading, bowling and dogs. Shotzie and Jodie always held a special place in her heart. She was a Red Sox and Patriots fan. Edie was actively involved in the committees for several WHS Class of 1944 reunions and she volunteered at the Walpole library.

Edie's beloved husband Ken died in 2008 as a consequence of dementia. Unfortunately, Edie suffered the same affliction. From 2011, she was a resident of Forge Hill Senior Living in Franklin MA. Her family wishes to thank the Forge Hill staff for their kind attention and care for Edie.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Edie's Life Celebration on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601 Online: http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp
