E. Marie (Arsenault) Rettman, age 80, passed away peacefully in her Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Saturday, October 19, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 4, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ethel Marie (Day) Arsenault. She was raised in the Roxbury area of Boston and graduated from Saint Mary of the Assumption High School in Brookline with the Class of 1957. Marie went on to attend Boston State College before taking a position with the New England Telephone Company. After a short time with the phone company, Marie settled into her job at LFE (Laboratory For Electronics) in Boston.
Marie married her beloved husband, William C. Rettman, on September 17, 1960. The young couple initially made their home together in Jamaica Plain, and later settled in Roxbury, where Marie took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her children. In 1970, Marie and Bill moved their family out of the city, making their new home in Norfolk, Massachusetts. As her children grew up, Marie returned to work, taking a position with the King Philip North Junior High School, working as a cook in the cafeteria. She continued working in the cafeteria until her retirement in 2003.
In her retirement, Marie developed her love for travel. She and Bill traveled the world together and took more than thirty cruises, exploring many places. They always looked forward to their annual trips to their camp on Long Lake in Bridgton, Maine, spending hours aboard their boat, cruising the lake. Back at home, Marie loved being in her kitchen, creating wonderful meals and baking the best desserts, including many wedding cakes. Most of all, Marie adored being surrounded by her grandchildren, treasuring every moment with them.
